Kirby

ADOPTION PENDING

Adoption fee $400

Medical needs: None
Behavioral considerations: Kirby has separation anxiety, its not the worst I have ever seen but its an issue that his new owner will have to deal with. Kirby is crate trained at night the crate is kept in the bedroom and he is crated when we leave, but he DOES bark when left alone. Kirby is about 90% with his house training but will need ongoing reinforcement in this area.
Kids: Yes Kirby is great with kids big and small
Cats: Yes Kirby is fine with cats
Dogs: Yes Kirby loves dogs of all types and sizes and we would prefer him to go to a home with another dog or 2.
Housing: Kirby needs a detached home with a fenced yard
Time alone: The less the better, would prefer someone who works from home due to his anxiety about being left alone. The company of another dog helps him very much with his anxiety.

Kirby is neutered, up to date with vaccinations, treated with advantage for fleas, dewormed and micro chipped.

Feb 7th 2010 - Kirby was a stray so we don't have very much background information about him. But he certainly is a beautify pug!

Kirby is about 3 years old, so far he seems to get along with other female dogs (we will see about other males I have not had a chance to see what he is like yet), he is curious about the cats but respectful and not a chaser. He is calm and laid back, he does get a little nervous when you try and pick him up or put a leash on him, but we will be working with him to help him feel more comfrotable.

He is a lovely guy with what seems like the typical pug personality. We have had some marking incidences tonight but hopefully it resolves in the next few days. Kirby is at least a pound underweight (or maybe more) so he we will be offering more then the normal amount of food until he gains a bit of weight.

Feb 8th 2010 - Kirby continues to do well. He is a very laid back, relax kind of guy so far. Seems to get along and have no problem with the other dogs, kids and cats. Kirby is 17.6 pounds today.

Feb 10th 2010 - Kirby is a wonderful little dog! He is nothing but a pleasure to have in the house, he is very calm, relaxed and go with the flow type of guy. I am very impressed with him so far.

Kirby will need to put on a few pounds before being offered for adoption, he also needs a booster, rabies vaccine, micro chip and heart worm test which will need to be in about 2 weeks from now. He is a wonderful guy with a true pug type personality.

Feb 12 2010- Kirby was at the vet today, he has some swelling around his left eye, the vet put in some freezing and had a good look at him, all seems well. He must have just bumped it or scratched it, it should heal up on its own. Kirby was given his vaccination boosters and micro chipped today (killed 2 birds with one stone). Kirby continues to do well and is slowly coming out of his shell more and more each day.

In the vets words "Kirby is no more then 3 years old" so we were right on the money with him, he is somewhere between 2 and 3 years old.

Feb 21st 2010 - Kirby had a great time at the London Pug Social today! Met lots of nice people and met a few potential homes. He continues to be an all around great dog with very typical pug personality traits, he is a sensitive guy and really needs an understanding owner and another canine companion. Everyone at the Pug Social was really impressed with how high Kirby can jump! He is quite the table surfer and lives up to that part of the pugs reputation!

Feb 24th 2010 - Kirby sporting his hand made belly band! I am cracking down on the house training and and really going to put forth a 100% effort over the next few weeks.

Kirby continues to do well and has gained some much needed weight, he has been more playful lately and seems very content in his foster home.

March 4th 2010 - Poor Kirby is still waiting for a home of his own. He is coming along very nicely with his house training and has not had an accident in a couple of days, we are using the belly band when we are not able to watch him or we are out of the house. So things are going very well that way. Kirby had some very loose stool from some treats (not grain free) so we are thinking he may have an allergy (which is fairly common) to wheat or corn, or he may just have a sensitive stomach, its best if he is kept on his current food (orijen) or on a grain free diet (which is what we recommend anyways with our rescues).  Kirby has gained quite a bit of weight and his ribs are no longer prominent. He continues to be a happy go lucky pug. We call him the stuffed teddy beat because he is so cuddly and soft,  he will lay in my lap for hours and fall dead asleep.

Feb 12th (with Blanche)
Feb 13th 2010 - Well I know who follows who LOL. Kirby follows Blanche around the house and almost uses her for security. Kirby is a very sensitive guy and I think he will require another K9 companion in his new home. He does get very upset when left alone and probably has a touch of separation anxiety, but as long as Blanche (or another dog) is near him he seems to be fine. He is a sensitive guy what can I say! We are continuing working on the house training and things have improved, His marking has decreased but is still happening when we are not watchful so we will continue to offer him support in this area. Other then that Kirby is a pretty cool and calm teddy bear dog and we really enjoy having him here with us.
