Captain Jack

We are in desperate need for sponsors for Jack.

Jack was picked up by the St Thomas Pound as a stray, he has (according to the vet) suffered painful trauma to his eye that has gone untreated for quite some time.

Jack will need to have his eye removed and is scheduled for surgery on Thursday  Jan 7th 2010. Read Jacks complete story below.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped us pay for Jacks surgery. Jack is very happy to have a new start in life and is well on his way to the perfect home!

To apply to adopt Jack please copy and paste the adoption form here or email us to request an application. Please send all applications to Info@swonpugrescue.com.

Applications will be accepted to suit Jacks best match and are not in order of which they are received. Jack is only available for adoption within Ontario.

Age: 1 year
Adoption Fee: 400
Behavioral Issues: Typical puppy behavior, jumping, chewing, nothing out of the ordinary but does need some basic obedience training. jack is VERY smart and eager to please, he would excel in any type of training. Jack is fully crate trained and goes happily into his crate at night. Jack is coming along well with his house training but will need
ongoing support in this area in his new home.
Kids: Jack LOVES children but can get a little over excited due to his age and energy level, so a home without toddlers would be best, but he is great with children 5 and older.
Dogs: Jack LOVES other dogs and would enjoy the company of another active dog (big or small).
Cats: Jack is a big cat chaser and because he has only one eye its important to protect that. Only declawed dog friendly cats for Jack.
Medical Issues: None
Time alone: up to 5 hours per day, possibly more if he has another dog to keep him company.

Jan 1st 2010 - Jack is doing well, he is turning into quite the active guy, we have him confined in the house (see picture above) because we don't want to risk him injuring one of his eyes (he tends to bang into things). We are giving him 3 walks a day and he is fine going long distance and even for runs, the weather doesn't bother him at all. House training is going well so far but not 100% yet.

- Jack continues to do well, he is a nice mix of active and playful yet still knows how and when to relax. He loves to play, and likes to play rough, he would do very well with other dogs of similar energy (even large dogs). He is very smart and its very easy to teach him anything. We are crate training him and he is responding VERY well to it, we are trying to get him used to being confined until after his surgery, because he will need to rest and avoid bumping into things until the eye fully heals. He is crated during the night and day with a 30 minute walk 2 to 3 times per day and then a few hours to play around the house in the evening. Jack was also not house trained when he arrived and he is doing VERY well with this aspect as well. He is very smart!

- Jack continues to do well, he is a really great walking partner now and is enjoying  his walks very much. He LOVES to play and chew I think I will have to get him some toys sometime today to keep him busy. 2 more days until his surgery date! Wish him luck.

Jan 7th 2010- Jack had his eye removed as well as his neuter today. Poor guy is feeling not so well.

But the surgery went very well and Dr Kirby was very happy with how well it went.  Jack is on pain medication for the next 7 days to keep him comfortable.

Jan 8th 2010 - Jack is feeling MUCH better and is even back to chasing the cats today. I am very impressed with how well he has adjusted and it almost seems like he feels better now then he has in a long time. Jack will be ready for adoption as soon as his eye completely heals, should be in around mid Feb.

Jan 10th 2010 - I just wanted to extend a special thank you to everyone who has generously donated to care for Jack. There truly are good people left in the world and Jack would not be alive without the the generous donations of money and time to help him on his journey to a new life. You have REALLY saved a life, Jack would have been euthanized or sold to research had he been left in the pound.
Jack is doing very well today, 3 days after surgery, he is feeling really good and coming along nicely. He has not had an accident in the house since his surgery (his E collar and his neuter have contributed to his inability or desire to mark our furniture lol) so I think once the E collar is off the habit will have set in and he should be pretty much 100% in this area. We have him on some special food (care of Dr Kirby from Masonville animal hospital here in London) that is helping quite a deal with his loose stool (which is probably due to stress but we have not ruled out allergies or sensitivities to certain ingredients, but we will have it all sorted out before he is adopted. I will keep everyone posted.

- I had Jack at the big dog park today (here in London) he did FABULOUS with the other dogs big and small. He really has a lot of social skills with other dogs and is not a "dominant" type of dog at all. He plays very well with big and small dogs of both sexes and had very good manners with the people at the dog park. I was VERY proud of him today, he did great, and nobody noticed he has only one eye. He has not had an accident in at least a week so he is he has figured out house training and will kind of pace back and forth when he is ready to go out, if you ask him "do you need to go outside?" he will run to the door and run back. He sits on command now every time, his jumping has been curbed very well and he only jumps when he is very excited (we are continuing to work with him but he is MUCH better then he was). His recall is also very good, he comes in when I ask him (better then my own dogs). He is a great little dog who continues to impress me more and more each day.

Jack has found forever!

Jack has been adopted into a great home and we are SO happy for him!!!! See Jack below with his new brother Baily.
